As we've covered a little bit here in the past, there's a group of Christian nutjobs (not to be confused with normal Christians) that wants to stop the Gathering and is using ignorance and fear to try and stir up the locals. One juggalo had the guts to go to the meeting they were holding to discuss their objections. He sent me his notes.

Last night I spoke with
a segment of the Hardin county community about their problems with
the gathering coming to their area and the main subject they were
worried about is the talk of violence among the Juggaloes. First, the
head pastor of the Shawnee Ministerial Alliance is being threatened
through multiple emails, forum comments, and random MySpace profiles.
Juggaloes you need to remember that people who do not understand our
culture, slang, or poor taste in humor. Everything that is being said
is taken out of context to up most exaggeration, though some of the
comments do not need exaggeration. Unfortunately, some Juggaloes are
threatening not only members of the Shawnee Ministerial Alliance, but
also their families. Last night I spoken with nervous family members
who spoke with Illinois state police pressing charges against these
Juggaloes. I tried to let them know that it was ignorant 14-year-old
kids who do not know any better trying to sound tough from behind a
keyboard. Nonetheless, this did not put them to ease. As you can
realize, I was fighting a loosing battle when I was trying to
convince people at the Juggalo community core we are not violent
people. I plead with the Juggalo community to police its own from
empty cowardly threats that are actually affecting people’s
livelihoods. You have to understand that special interest groups are
watching everything we say. Even in jest or sarcasm, anything we say
will be taken out of severe context. As a community, we have the
responsibility to show that we are better than the stereotype that
others want to confide us into. And notes from the meeting.Hardin County only
does not want the Juggalo community, though they do not want any
outsiders coming to their area.
Shawnee
Ministerial Alliance acted to late to stop The Gathering.
Elder Christian
women were trying to think of ways to stop The Gathering with health
violations so it can be shut down.
People of note
that showed up, Hardin County Sheriff, Illinois State Police
representatives, U.S. House of Representative Il-R John Shimkus
spokesperson Steve Tomaszewski, and Southern Illinois paper’s
Bethany Krajelis.
The State Police
representatives took legal questions from the legality of wearing
face paint, emailed threats from the internet, and what could the
community do to secure their households.
There was talk
about posting signs about no face paint in any business.
Businesses will
stay open during The Gathering.
Police blockades
will be everywhere not only to check for DUI’s, but also of
course anything illegal.
There is no
reasoning with the Shawnee Ministerial Alliance since they are think
of us nothing more of demonic people coming to their town to recruit
their children.
Half of the night
was fighting between themselves about do they damn us as ungodly
people who are without salvation or the couple of people who wanted
to save us ungodly people.
Mentally instable
people who claim Juggalo like Jacob Robida who ruin our good name
with their horrific antics.
STOP THE THREATS!
It was a loosing battle for us when I have to explain why people
without direction are scaring these people.
Meaningless
threats on website comments, message boards, and MySpace profiles
make us look bad.Now, this is something I hate. Any time somebody says something that's against Juggalos or ICP, a group of Internet 15-year old tough guys decides the best response is to email threats or send long rambling diatribes written in all caps with no punctuation. This makes us look worse and just confirms people's fears about Juggalos. This is not how you win people to our side. So stop the threats, stop the swearing and attacks.

They go around telling everyone that unless you come to their church and do things exactly how some 2000 year old book says to do it, the you are going straight to hell. But the second you even think about mentioning your beliefs to them or just celebrating what you believe, they protest and make a big fuss. Jesus would be spinning in his grave if he knew about this.

There's a thin line that divides the juggalo community. On one side you have the kids that think its about rebellion and being different (which, for the most part, it kind is). But you hve the other side that knows that fights arent won by threats (whether they're real or empty). When people look at juggalos, its like a whole different race of people. Every race at a point in time has to struggle with discrimination. People fear what they dont understand. Juggalos are as hard to understand as somebody that cant read trying to become a rocket scientist (no offence to illiterates, but you dont know what I just said so HA!). We have to stop the childish behavior and step as as real men and women fighting for our rights to be a free people with the same rights as everyone else. The only way to do this is the way our past great leaders have, through kind words, civil dissobediance, and such. You may listen to bloody murder music, but NONE of you actually goes around dumping bodies in marsh lagoons (or maybe?). Threats help the people against us. Dont try to fight them, try to show them the real picture. Help them understand. We fight for the same cause. THE CARNIVAL IS GOD AND MAY ALL JUGGALOS FIND HIM!!!!! On the real though, maybe if parents would fucking take control of their kids a little, people wouldn't look at us like this. -Make your kid take a shower daily! -Wear clean clothes. -Behave a fucking adult even when you're not supervised by one. -When you're not around your friends etc. try and at least watch your language a little bit. Believe it or not, some people find it offensive, and even though you may think its ignorant of them to think that, they're thinking the same thing about you.. so show some common fuckin respect. All the kids that do stupid shit will one day look back at how fucking stupid they acted, and if they don't, then they'll be looking back on how "awesome" it was from either prison or the good old trailer park.

Even if it does last only a couple more years, thats a HUGE fuckin accomplishment. This is the, what?, 8th gathering? Holy shit! This is going to be my 4th. With that said, how many times have you all gone? You dont have to answer, just think about it. The gathering is a huge money maker. It probably brings in more money than all psy album sales combined. But its not about making money (shhh, lets pretend its not). Juggalos have succeeded where hippies failed. We gathering EVERY year (woodstock failed) and there's no problems within the juggalo community. Hippies couldnt do that. Woodstock 69 worked, but thats was the first...didnt work how THEY wanted it to, but it happened. Woodstock 94 things started getting out of hand. Woodstock 99, WOW. Did you go? I went. That shit was NUTS. But exactly my point. ICP has been doing this for 8 years with NO problems ever (minus the riots a few years ago, not caused by us though). The welcomed people and musicians cause problems and get out of hand. Woodstock 99 was fights, ODs, rapes, FIRE, etc. All that at a festival that was created with nothing more than the thought of community, brotherhood, peace through music. THEY FAILED! This could be the very last gathering EVER (sake of conversation) and it'll show that they did it right. Even though the lyrics arent "friendly," WE are! We succeeded with 8 years, going strong, of peace through music. In your fuckin face you tree hugging fucks.
